Learning Resources to help you with your Coding Journey

In the past we have ran a Tech Scholarship Programme with Aziz Foundation and National Zakat to join the Makers Bootcamp. We had over 150+ Applications and we were really impressed by the calibre of applications which made the decision to pick the final shortlist super hard!

The below are resources we collected and sent to everyone that applied and thought it would be useful to share with you all!

Join the Muslamic Makers Slack Community!

We have a wonderful community of designers and techies on slack who will be able to guide you so feel free to reach out to the community whenever you need help! To join simply fill in our slack membership form.

Free online coding resources

You don’t have to break your bank to learn how to code, there are plenty of free resources available to help you get started on your journey. Here are our list of some of our favourite online resources:

  1. Freecodecamp – All their resources are free, you can build projects and earn certificates to put on your CV.
  2. Codeacademy – Has a lot of free resources, there is also a 50% Off annual pro membership + 10% Extra if you use code “SAVE10” this is subject to availability. They have predefined paths and tutorials you can follow.
  3. Harvard University Introduction to computer Science – Harvard University’s introduction to the intellectual enterprises of computer science and the art of programming for majors and non-majors alike, with or without prior programming experience. An entry-level course taught by David J. Malan, CS50x teaches students how to think algorithmically and solve problems efficiently. Topics include abstraction, algorithms, data structures, encapsulation, resource management, security, software engineering, and web development. This is a fully remote self-paced course.

Free coding schools

01 Founders

01 Founders is a revolutionary free-to-access coding school with a job guarantee. Become a world-class software engineer through a 2 year peer based training programme with specialisation in AI, Blockchain, Cybersecurity, Gaming, or AR and VR.

School of code

School of Code offers a free 16 week remote intensive web development course open to applicants of all backgrounds. By the end of the course, you will have learned the fundamentals of programming, learned how to work in a high performance tech team, and you will be specialised in full-stack JavaScript development.

You’ll be trained in the industry best practices and standards, and we will help you to get a foothold in the tech industry! On top of creating software to solve real-world problems, you’ll receive training to be confident and job-ready.

Not only is the course free, but they are all aligned on helping place you into jobs – they bring the companies to you! And the proof is in the pudding… They’ve achieved a 75-90% employment in tech consistently (even during the COVID pandemic) despite most bootcampers having never seen a line of code before they start the course. Applications are currently closed by due to open in a few months.

Founders and Coders – Founders and Coders CIC is a UK-based nonprofit that develops and runs tuition-free, peer-led training programmes in web development, guided by core values of cooperation, inclusion and social impact.
