Bootcamps work, but £8,500 is a wall. We knocked it down for the people who needed it most: over £50,000 in fully funded places across three years.
Coding and design bootcamps were the fastest route into tech for career changers, and completely out of reach for anyone who couldn't spare thousands of pounds. So we partnered with funders who shared our mission and put talented Muslims through them for free.
Our first round, in partnership with the Aziz Foundation: six scholarships for British Muslims to kickstart a tech career in 3 to 4 months.
Four more fully funded Makers places, worth £8,500 each, this time funded through Zakat and awarded to Zakat-eligible Muslims who couldn't afford the fees. NZF handled the means-testing; we interviewed candidates alongside them. A neat model: the Islamic social welfare system paying for career transformation.
We joined the Makers Represent Scholarship programme alongside other community partners, giving our members rolling access to funded places across multiple cohorts through the year.
Graduates of these courses went on to establish careers across the tech industry, as developers, designers and engineers.
